Over the past week, I have had few people ask me about embedding YouTube videos within the fanpage toolkit templates and if it can be done? First, off… fanpage toolkit does include native support for YouTube videos in select templates. However, if you wish to go a little custom and add more videos to those templates or even add videos to a template without native video support…. The answer is definitely yes!
For security reasons, embedded media tags are automatically removed from all Facebook code. Fortunately, there is a way around this. To post the YouTube video for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXXXXXXXXXX (Where XXXXXXXXX is the string of letters and numbers that represent your video file. Meaning, you will need to replace this string with what you see in the video url).
To embed the YouTube player in your fanpage toolkit template (so that it displays properly on your Facebook page), just use the following code in your fanpage toolkit template:
<fb:swf swfsrc=’http://www.youtube.com/v/XXXXXXXXXXX‘ width=’380′ height=’250′ imgsrc=’http://fbook.mtjf.net/profile/images/youtube.jpg‘/>
Note: You can adjust the width and the height as needed to work with your selected fanpage toolkit template… not to exceed width=’520′ height=’300′.
That’s it everyone! Your video should now display and play correctly. Feel free to post any comments or questions here to share your experiences.
